The homeowners had converted their Victorian terrace loft into a bedroom, but had installed only thin mineral wool between the rafters. The room was unbearably cold in winter and like an oven in summer. Standard depth insulation was not possible as the rafters were only 75mm deep.
We installed SuperFOIL SF19 between the rafters, with a continuous SF19 layer across the underside of the rafters, creating a warm roof system with a total build-up of just 48mm while achieving a U-value of 0.16 W/mΒ²K β better than current Building Regulations require.
The loft room is now the most comfortable bedroom in the house. The couple reported a 28% reduction in gas consumption in the first winter after installation.

A 1960s semi-detached home had the original 50mm of glass wool insulation in the loft β decades out of date and providing almost no meaningful thermal protection by modern standards. The upstairs was consistently cold and the heating system had to work extremely hard.
We cleared the existing degraded insulation, treated a minor moisture issue identified during survey, and installed 270mm of mineral wool (100mm between joists, 170mm perpendicular above) together with proper ventilation baffles to ensure free air movement above the insulation.
The homeowner saw her annual heating bills drop by over Β£240. The upstairs of the house is now consistently warm, and the EPC rating improved from E to C.

A retired couple's bungalow had no loft insulation at all, resulting in huge heat loss through the extensive roof surface. The property was heated by oil and the annual fuel bill had become very significant. The loft had limited headroom and awkward access.
We specified a SuperFOIL SF19 Plus system installed across the full loft floor, with careful attention to airtightness at the perimeter and around service penetrations. The foil system was chosen in preference to mineral wool because of its thinner profile and superior vapour management properties for this particular construction type.
Annual heating oil consumption reduced by 31%. The payback period is estimated at under 3 years. The couple report the house feels "transformed" in winter.

A large Edwardian townhouse had multiple roof pitches, dormers, flat roof sections over extensions, and a complex internal layout. Various types of existing insulation had been installed over the years to varying standards. The owners wanted a comprehensive thermal upgrade to one consistent high standard throughout.
We undertook a thorough whole-house survey, mapped all the different roof elements, and designed a bespoke system using SuperFOIL SF40BB for the main pitched sections, PIR boards for the flat roof warm deck, and specialist detailing at all junctions and transitions.
Comprehensive compliance with Approved Document L achieved across all roof elements. Energy bills reduced by approximately Β£380 per year and the EPC improved from D to B.
π Shipley, Bradford
A homeowner had a large single-storey kitchen/diner extension with a flat roof. The contractor who built the extension had installed only a basic cold deck system, which was already showing signs of condensation and was thermally very poor. The room was cold in winter despite large amounts of underfloor heating.
We stripped back the flat roof covering in coordination with the homeowner's roofing contractor, installed a properly designed warm deck insulation system using 120mm PIR boards to achieve U-value 0.16 W/mΒ²K, with full attention to edge details and service penetrations.
Condensation problems resolved entirely. The room now maintains comfortable temperatures without the underfloor heating needing to run at maximum. The flat roof covering is expected to last significantly longer without the thermal stress of the previous cold deck system.
π Wakefield, West Yorkshire
A local landlord owned a portfolio of 8 rental properties, several of which had EPC ratings below the MEES minimum requirement of E. The properties needed insulation upgrades to comply with legislation and to improve the comfort and attractiveness of the properties to tenants.
We surveyed all 8 properties and coordinated ECO4 funding applications for the eligible properties. Four properties qualified for fully funded loft insulation. The remaining properties received competitively priced installations. All work was coordinated to minimise disruption to tenants.
All 8 properties now meet minimum EPC requirements. Four properties received fully funded insulation at nil cost to the landlord. Tenant satisfaction surveys showed significant improvement in comfort ratings. Total annual energy savings across the portfolio exceed Β£1,200.
